Our IEEE student branch, together with NETACAD FEL ČVUT, organized a one-day excursion to Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav. The program included two technical talks, a factory tour, a museum visit, and a look inside the company’s data center. We left Prague early in the morning and arrived at the STC Cosmonauts building, where two lectures were given. The first talk, “Data is useless…”, focused on how to use data in a meaningful way. The second, “Sensors for autonomous cars”, explained how sensors are used in self-driving vehicles and what the future might bring. After lunch, we visited the Škoda Museum and the production plant. This part showed us both the history of the company and how cars are made today. At the end of the day, we were guided through the Škoda data center, where the company manages its digital infrastructure.
The trip gave us a good overview of how a modern car company works, both in terms of technology and daily operations.
